Greater Swiss Mountain Dog

The breed

Greater Swiss Mountain Dog

We can find some historical notes already in Middle Ages where those dogs were used for watching villages. Greater swiss mountain dog was accepted by FCI as a official breed in 1939. Since that we have standard of breed.

Those dogs were used for wearing heavy objects in mountains during the World War II. Talent for work is one of reasons why are swiss mountain dogs now well spread in Europe. Nowadays we can find many kennels over whole Europe and also in the USA.

Greater swiss mountain dog is a large and elegant dog with good condition for work and movement. He has short coat and 3 colours.

It is a positive dog that is wary to strangers and kind to his family and friends. He is also tolerant to other pets at home and he loves kids. He can live all year at the garden but his place must have thermal insulation.
